ABSTRACT
When the scientific committee member called and told me that I will be given a topic in this conference, I asked him about the topic but he evaded the question and told they will email it to me once the topics are finalised. Unwittingly I said yes for including me in the faculty to deliver the lecture.
After a few days I received the mail and reading it I had a very different mixed feeling.
- I was really amused to read the topic
- I am sure that there won’t be any ready references from which I can formulate my talk.
- I am totally left with to relay on my experience as an anaesthetist to give this lecture.
- Then I thought why me? It slowly dawned to me no more I am young and becoming a senior citizen.
Having accepted the task I tried to collect data for the talk and as my experience for the past 33 years as a practicing anaesthesiologist and a teacher of anaesthesia I present the following discourse.
The traditional Surgeon and his role
Anaesthesia at its infancy and the ‘’Anaesthetist’ of that time and his role
Demands of modern-day anaesthesia and surgery and the responsibilities associated with it
CPA and doctors/anaesthetists
Skills and competence of the anaesthesiologist
Readiness to be a part of the team as well as ready to lead the team
Man management skills
Conclusion
