Clonidine (Alpha-2 Agonist) Increases Preoperative Circulatory Stability And It Blunts The Stress Response To Surgical Stimuli. It Reduces The Requirement Of Narcotic And Anaesthetic Doses. We Evaluated The Effects Of Oral Clonidine Versus Placebo Premedication On Haemodynamic Parameters Triggered By Pneumoperitoneum In Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy.
METHODS :In This Randomized Prospective Study, Sixty ASA I And II Patients Aged Between 20 To 60 Years, Scheduled For Elective Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Were Selected And Divided Into Two Groups (Group P And Group C) Of 30 Patients Each Were Investigated. Group P Received Tab .Vitamin B-Complex Orally And Group C Received Tab Clonidine 150μg Orally. Systolic, Diastolic And Mean Arterial Pressure, Heart Rate, Spo2 And Etco2 Were Recorded At Different Points Of Time In Both The Groups.
RESULTS :There Was Statistically Significant Changes In Heart Rate, Systolic, Diastolic And Mean Arterial Pressures At Different Points Of Time And Surgery Were Noted In Both The Groups. 30min. After Pneumoperitoneum, HR(Bpm) & MAP(Mm Of Hg) In Group P Were 96.53±10.41&110.90±8.86 While In Group C, They Were 77.40±6.47 & 95.80± 6.66 Respectively. Statistically, This Difference Was Significant (P<0.001).
CONCLUSIONS :Premedication With 150 Μg Oral Clonidine, Has Been Found To Be Relatively Safe As Well As Effective Method That Provides Haemodynamics Protection Against Stress Response Triggered By Pneumoperitoneum In Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy.
