Comparison of clinical performance of the i gel with lmaproseal
Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences
ABSTRACT : - To compare insertion characteristics of 2 different supraglottic devices (I GEL and Proseal Laryngeal mask airway PLMA) and to observe any associated complications
METHODS : A Prospective , randomized study conducted in 60 patients group 1 (I GEL) n=30 and group P (PMLA) n=30 of ASA grades ½ of either sex in age group 18-60 years. Both groups were compared to ease of insertion , insertion attempts , fiberoptic assessment, ease of gastric tube placement , and other complications
RESULTS : Mean insertion time for I gel was significantly lower than that of PLMA. I gel was easier to insert with a better anatomic fit and ease of gastric tube insertion is significantly higher in I gel group than PLMA group.
CONCLUSIONS : I gel is comparable to PMLA in securing a patent airway during controlled ventilation. It is better than PMLA in terms of faster insertion , insertion attempts , ease of gastric tube placement , fiberoptic scores for I gel showed excellent anatomic fit than PLMA
