There is always the assumed risk that complications may arise after surgicalprocedures.Nausea and vomiting are common complications reported after laparoscopicsurgeries. The prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is believed not only to increase patient satisfaction, but also to provide cost-effective care. The purpose of this study is to compare the induction with sevoflurane and propofol in reduction PONV after laparoscopic surgery
METHODS: It was a randomized control trial conducted in a tertiary care hospital. After informed consent total of 60 patients posted for laparoscopic abdominal surgery with age group 25-50yrs,ASA I,II were randomized into two groups with group A induction withsevoflurane 8%, iv fentanyl 1 to 1.5 mcg/kg and rocuronium 0.6 mg/kg and group B with induction with propofol 2 mg/kg, iv fentanyl 1 to 1.5 mcg/kg and rocuronium 0.6 mg/kg.
RESULTS:No significant differences were seen between the two groups in their frequencies of 24 hour PONV.However patients undergoing sevoflurane induction received anti-emetic rescue in the post anesthetic care unit earlier than patients who had undergone propofolinduction.Data was analysed using descriptive statistical analysis and the result was statistically significant.(p<0.05)
