ABSTRACT : Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) now a days is the treatment of choice for kidney stones. Mostly PCNL is done under general anaesthesia. However, it can be done under spinal anaesthesia. In this study we will compare the efficacy and safety of spinal and general anaesthesia on intraoperative and postoperative outcome of the patient undergoing PCNL for kidney stones

METHODS : Study will be done at S.C.B Medical College, Hospital, Cuttack. 60 patients will be divided into two groups. 30 patients under spinal anaesthesia, and 30 patients under general anaesthesia will undergo PCNL. Intraoperative and postoperative events and complications will be noted. All qualitative data and quantitative data will be analysed by chi square and student’s t test respectively. P value < 0.05 is considered statistically significant.

RESULTS : Common complications like hypotension, postoperative nausea and vomiting, postoperative pain ,tachycardia, post operative headache, low back pain and sore throat will be observed in both group. The heart rate, Systolic and Diastolic blood pressure will be compared in both the groups

CONCLUSIONS : The study finding will be correlated with literature evidence. Conclusion will be drawn after proper analysis.
