Osmania Medical College
ABSTRACT : Evaluate and analyse the various treatment protocols of organophosphorous poisoning in ICU scenario.
METHODS : 200 patients admitted to our RICU from 2007 till date were selected for the study. Patients belonged to both sexes and were in the age group of 10years – 60 years. One of the patients even had a tight mitral stenosis with MVA of 0.8 sq.cms. the ICU admission protocols, management in ICU, critical life support treatment protocols, enteral and parenteral nutrition strategies, special new treatment concepts, ventilation care, complication in ICU, reasons for mortality and morbidity and unforeseen complications and over all successful and unsuccessful outcomes will be discussed and analysed.
RESULTS : Many patients required ventilation for around 2 weeks The deaths in OP poisoning were mostly due to respiratory failure followed by CNS depression , cardiac arrest and septicaemia.
CONCLUSIONS : OP poisoning if treated well and with carefully observed ICU protocols will ensure reasonably decent and successful outcomes.
