ABSTRACT : To comapare the effects of Dexmedetomidine and Clonidine in attenuating hemodynamic response to laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation .

METHODS : With the approval of hospital ethics committee ,after obtaining informed consent from patients scheduled for elective operation under general anaesthesia includes 90 patients of both sex. The patient belonged to ASA -1 and ASA-2 grades. The patients were normotensive, The age varied from 20-50 years. The selected patients received the drugs at random and were divided into 3 groups.

RESULTS : DEXMEDITOMIDINE Attentuate the hemodynamic responses during intubation better than the clonidine group and control group, there is less rise in heart rate with dexmeditomidine group compare to clonidine group ,blood presssure fluctations also less with dexmeditomidine group.

CONCLUSIONS : Dexmeditomidine given 10 mins before intubation attentuates hemodynamic responses during intubation
