ABSTRACT :

To investigate the analgesic efficacy of continuous femoral nerve block commenced prior to surgery around hip joint

METHODS :

Following a written and informed consent, patients awaiting HF, FNF and FITF surgery were given a continuous femoral perineural catheter. These patients received a CFNB comprising an initial bolus of 10ml of 2% lignocaine and 10ml of 0.5% bupivacaine followed by intermittent boluses of 10ml of 0.25% bupivacaine plus 2 microgram/ml fentanyl. Pain was assessed using visual analogue scale at rest and during passive movement (dynamic pain score) at 30mins following first analgesic intervention 6 hours thereafter. Patient satisfaction with the analgesic regimen was recorded using verbal rating scores (0-10). The primary outcome measured dynamic pain score from initial analgesic intervention to 48 hours later.

RESULTS :

It will be presented at the time of presentation.

CONCLUSIONS :

It will be presented at the time of presentation.
