DEXMEDETOMIDINE AS AN ADJUNCT TO GENERAL ANAESTHESIA FOR PEDIATRIC PATIENT COMING FOR CARDIAC SURGERY

OBJECTIVES :

METHODS :

after local ethics permission 60 pediatric patients are divided into two groups. Group 1 received dexmedetomidine in the doses of 0.5mg per kg per hour after narcotic induction. Group 2 has not been received dexmedetomidine. Sevoflurane has been used in both the groups as and when required. Data were collected and analysed

RESULTS :

age n sex are comparable. significant difference in hemodyamics. stress response is less in dexmed group. requirement of anesthetic agent is less in dexmed group.

CONCLUSIONS :

dexmedetomidine reduces the anesthetic requirement. it attenuates stress response.

Introduction –

dexmedetomidine is a selective potent Alfa 2 adreno receptor agonist with hypnotic, analgesic and sympatholytic property. During surgery it decreases the need of other anaesthetic minimises sympathomimetic response and improves intraoperative hemodynamic stability. This study was aim to assess the hemodynamic and endocrinal response to nociceptive surgical stimuli.

Aims –

Asses reduction in dose of anaesthetic agent for induction and maintenance when dexmedetomidine is used and hemodynamic stability.

Inclusion criteria:

patients between 5- 7 years of age coming for cardiac surgeries on CPB.

Material & method:
