The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of combined superficial cervical and interscalene block for clavicle plating surgery and to assess its efficacy of providing surgical anaesthesia, Intraoperative complications and postoperative benefits and complications.
METHODS :In the present study, 30 patients of age group between 20 and 70 years of age were taken. Ipsilateral superficial cervical plexus and interscalene block was performed with local anesthetic solution of 40ml of 0.5%ropivacaine. To allay anxiety inj.Midazolam1mg intravenous was given prior to block and intravenous Butorphanol tartrate 2m.g. was given before starting of surgery for Intraoperative analgesia. Only ASA 1, 2, 3 groups were selected. A total of 16 patients were ASA-1 group,8 patients were ASA-2 group and 6 patients were ASA group 3.
RESULTS :Most of the patients tolerated the procedure very well. Decreased I.C.U. stay of the patient’s noted. Postoperatively patients had longer pain free period, lower requirement of opioid analgesic doses, and lower incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting and early ambulatory discharge.
CONCLUSIONS :The study indicates that regional anesthesia is an appropriate alternative to general anesthesia in patients undergoing clavicle surgery with high risk factors for general anesthesia especially in C.O.P.D patients
