Institute : Rangaraya Medical College
ABSTRACT : Total Knee/Hip replacements are associated with significant pain post operatively. Our study was intended to evaluate efficacy of adding adjuvants like Dexmedetomidine and Clonidine to Epidural 0.5% Ropivacaine on post operative analgesia.
METHODS : 50 patients undergoing TKR/TR of ASA grade I/II belonging to age group 40-65 yrs, and of both sexes, were tken up for study. Patients were assingned into two groups- Group RD received 19ml of 0.5% Ropivacaine with Dexmedetomidine 1mcg/kg, made to 1 ml and Group RC received 19 ml of 0.5% Ropivacaine with Clonidine 2mcg/kg, made to 1ml.
Onset of analgesia, time of peak effect, duration of analgesia, cardiorespiratory parameters, side-effects and need of rescue analgesics were observed.
RESULTS : Patients of group RD showed early and prolonged duration of analgesia and stable hemodynamic parameters compared to group RC.
CONCLUSIONS : Patients of group RD showed early and prolonged duration of analgesia and stable hemodynamic parameters compared to group RC.
