ANAESTHETIC MANAGEMENT OF A GERIATRIC PATIENT WITH PARKINSON`S DISEASE AND DIABETES MELLITUS POSTED FOR EMERGENCY LAPROTOMY

METHODS : A general anaesthesia with endotracheal intubation and controlled ventilation was planned.The patient was induced with inj. thiopentone 200mg iv and inj succinylcholine 75mg iv, endotracheal intubation was done with a 8.5mm cuffed endotracheal tube. The anaesthesia was maintained with O2 only + isoflurane 0.5%-1% + injatracurium 25mg+5mg. Fentanyl 50mg iv and injparacetomol 750mg iv was used for the intra operative analgesia.

RESULTS : Patient has been successfully managed without any complications intraoperatively or postoperatively.

CONCLUSIONS : The patient of PD can be safely anesthetized, but a thorough perioperative assessment, minimizing the interruption of the drug therapy perioperatively and avoiding the known precipitating agents, are very important to reduce the postoperative mortality and morbidity.
